|Protocols||OpenVPN, L2TP-IPsec, and PPTP|
|Bypasses China Firewall||Yes (But no dedicated site for China)|

Based in Romania, CyberGhost VPN is an affordable VPN service at just $2.75/month on its 3-year plan.
It also recently introduced the new CyberGhost 6-user interface on its Mac and Windows dedicated apps along with the new Firestick app, which has given the provider a massive boost in terms of increasing user-friendliness, across various platforms.
A strict zero-logs policy, AES 256 encryption, access to over 3400 servers, dedicated apps for platforms, all make it a safe enough place to trust your internet connectivity with.
The provider has regained its best performance levels through a remarkable improvement in standards since we last reviewed it, so you should definitely consider reading this in-depth CyberGhost Review for 2019 to know more.
Its Based in Romania, a Safe European Location
Its jurisdiction i.e. Romania, is inherently safe as it neither has any stringent data retention laws nor is the country a part of any problematic alliance like 14 Eyes that might require it to share information or solicit it from VPN providers based in its location.
We couldn’t find anything wrong with being based in Romania in our study regarding dangerous jurisdictions for VPNs, so we can safely assume that CyberGhost is secure from that viewpoint.
Unlike many popular VPN providers, who claim to have an explicitly stated zero logs policy, but act against it by turning over user data to the authorities, CyberGhost is a name that tends to stand out. The provider does not indulge in activities that jeopardize a users’ identity.
It exists as one of the most secure VPN providers in the marketplace, which is far away from the embarrassing scandals other services have gone through. We went through its logging policies in detail in our study regarding logging policies of over 100 providers worldwide, and found nothing that should raise any sort of alarm. Therefore, you can feel assured that CyberGhost keeps no logs, except for your limited personal data (email address, username, and password), which is necessary for managing your account at the service.
CyberGhost Protocols/Encryption Review
According to our CyberGhost VPN review 2019, the protocols available with the service are limited to just three, namely OpenVPN, L2TP-IPsec, and PPTP, implying that it is a simple provider, which does not offer a wide degree of variety in its features.
However, where there are negatives, there are also positives. CyberGhost deploys the best encryption standard, AES-256 Bit, recommended by top military and government authorities to keep your identity safe.
This system of encryption offers the highest degree of security and is next to impossible to crack down. Even the wiliest of hackers would find their attempts to be futile against the encryption standard in use by CyberGhostVPN.
Most VPN providers do not reveal basic information about their service, lacking the transparency necessary for users to trust their product.
They avoid informing users about their headquarters, owners, investors, the board of directors, warrant canaries/transparency reports, and auditing processes (if any).
CyberGhost is not of the same breed and actually gave us quite detailed responses when we asked them invasive questions for our Transparency guide:
Where is your company headquarters? Could we get an address?
We’re in Bucharest, Romania, outside of the 5 Eyes, 9 Eyes, 14 Eyes alliance jurisdictions. Our details are here: https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/en_US/imprint
Do you publish Transparency Reports/Warrant Canaries?
Yes, we were the first ones in the VPN industry to publish a Transparency Report back in 2011. It’s a tradition we hold dear.
If yes, how often? A link to a URL or PDF file would be helpful!
Our yearly Transparency Report is here: https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/en_US/transparency-report
The numbers of legal request for Q1 2019 will soon be live on our Privacy Hub: https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/privacyhub/
Have your claims been audited by an independent third-party security firm?
Why have you not been audited yet? Any reasons?
So far, we have been focused on building the best VPN for our users. But we plan on having our VPN audited in the future.
Could we get some info on the owners behind the company?
This is not common in the VPN industry, but all the details about us are public. Meet our team and our office dogs here: https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/en_US/team
Do you guys have any investors and is the information available publically for users?
We’re part of Kape. More details here: http://www.kape.com/about-us.html
Who are the Board of Directors of your company?
You can find all details here: http://investors.kape.com/board-of-directors
CyberGhost Plans and Price Review
CyberGhost has always been an affordable VPN service with low-cost subscription deals that most users can easily accommodate into their budget.
Currently, the provider offers four different types of plans:
- Monthly Subscription: $12.99/month
- Yearly Subscription: $5.99/month ($71.88 billed once)
- 2-Yearly Subscription: $3.69/month ($88.56 billed once)
- 3-Yearly Subscription: $2.75/month ($99.00 billed once)
The monthly deal and the yearly subscription are expensive and certainly, do not fall within the affordable range at all.
The 2-year plan is good but it’s still a bit overboard, touching the $4 a month mark.
CyberGhost’s best plan is the 3-year deal, which will cost you just $2.75/month. I term it as the best deal because its price is lower than what NordVPN and PureVPN, two leading providers, are offering in their best plans.
The only top provider that’s currently cheaper than CyberGhost is Surfshark at $1.99/month, but since the latter offers much less number of servers than CyberGhost, it’s not a good alternative to it.
If you want to subscribe to CyberGhost, go for the 3 year plan and don’t be fussed about investing such a high amount upfront as you will be protected by the risk free 45 day refund policy in place by CyberGhost, which you can use to get your money back if you don’t want to continue further.
The service is also offering dedicated IPs as an add-on for an added cost of $5/month.
CyberGhost Payment Methods Review
If you plan on subscribing to any of the plans from CyberGhost VPN, then you would be pleased to hear that the provider accepts a good selection of payment methods. You can pay through all major credit card services including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express, direct payment methods like PayPal and for maximum anonymity, Bitcoin.
Other less popular options include GiroPay, Sofort Banking, Direct Debit and more. However, if we compare the list of payment methods to other VPN services, CyberGhost is definitely lacking considerably. There is no AliPay available and neither are their options from Payment Wall (which accepts 150 payment methods worldwide).
In cryptos, the options of paying through Ether or LiteCoin are also missing, which fails to create a much more inclusive feel. So, CyberGhost considerably lacks in diversity as far as accommodating more payment methods are concerned. We do expect the service to upgrade and improve in this area.
CyberGhost Servers Review
The service is currently offering 3400+ servers in 59 countries covering major locations across the globe. Its infrastructure is good enough to deliver reliable performance to users across the world.
The two biggest server locations agglomerations lie in North America and Europe.
CyberGhost’s servers are safe and secure as none of them were found to be leaking our real IPs through DNS or WebRTC leaks. The speeds were high with low ping rates allowing us to do HD streaming in all major locations without any issues.
The service offers specialized servers for unblocking geo-restricted sites and you can unblock multiple Netflix libraries through it in the USA, France, Germany and more. It can also be used to unblock Hulu, BBC iPlayer and CrunchyRoll.
Does CyberGhost Work in China?
The China-wide VPN ban has had a strong impact on a bunch of vpn services. You can no longer find China VPN listings in the Google Play and iTunes Stores. As such, you cannot install CyberGhost in the country, especially without alerting the authorities. This leaves only one option for getting CyberGhost to work in China. You can either download the .apk file manually by telling someone outside the country to send you the download link. Expats can preload the app for usage in China to unblock popular websites/apps.
CyberGhost Speed Test Review
All VPNs slow down your internet speeds because of the added encryption, which causes a longer data packets route. However, if a VPN slows your speed too much, it might just be better to shun it altogether.
In our CyberGhost VPN review, we found that the service does well when connected to servers located in your vicinity or nearby. But since last year’s downfall, the service has improved its standards massively.
I was able to watch Netflix in HD via CyberGhost, which is a testament of the faster speeds that it now supports. Even on far-away servers, the performance was always good and the ping rates were low.

CyberGhost Device Compatibility Review
Just like all other popular VPNs, CyberGhost makes sure that users can use its service on all popular platforms with incredible ease and comfort. Featuring dedicated apps for Windows, Mac, Android, and IOS, the service is great for the average user.
However, if you are using a niche platform like Linux or FireStick, the service does not offer much compatibility except for providing tutorials on how it uses its service through a manual setup on such niche devices.
CyberGhost 6 Review
The best thing about the service, which impressed us the most, was the CyberGhost 6 user interface on its Windows and Mac apps.
Featuring six modes, with each demarcated for a special, custom browsing experience, the CyberGhost 6 interface makes it immensely easier for any user to work with the VPN in an optimized manner.
From streaming to secure surfing, there is a tile for anything you might need a VPN for. Here is how you can download it on Windows and Mac:

CyberGhost VPN App for Firestick
The provider now offers its very own Firestick VPN app and joins the elite club of providers that are currently doing so like PureVPN and ExpressVPN.
This app is easily available in the Amazon FireTV app store and can be downloaded and set up just by a simple search on it.
All major streaming sites including Hulu, Netflix US, Crunchyroll were accessible on Firestick, in large part to CyberGhost’s brilliant ability to dodge even the strongest of geo-restrictions and VPN bans on these sites.
CyberGhost Kodi Review
Kodi exists as one of the best innovations in recent years, allowing us to stream online content on all of our devices unabated. However, the open-source, multi-platform entertainment app does find its limitations from all of the geo-restricted content out there.
Sometimes, it may become impossible for users to enjoy the popular streaming free media software to its fullest. This is where best vpn for kodi comes in, and CyberGhost is definitely a name you should consider if you intend to commit to that aim.

The Android app of CyberGhost VPN was featured in the list of apps that were malware-infected and considered intrusive, but when we checked it know, it’s perfectly clear and safe for users to download and set up on their Android devices.
CyberGhost’s Android app has also got a makeover with a new stunning and easy to use design interface, laced with all the new features from the provider.

CyberGhost for Chrome and Firefox
CyberGhost VPN does not provide innate support for browsers like Chrome or Firefox. There are no dedicated extensions available sadly. If you still want to use them on these browsers, its best to download their device security apps for e.g. installing the Windows client would ensure that all of the internet activity including that done on browser remains private!
CyberGhost for Mac OS

CyberGhost Customer Support Review
According to our CyberGhost VPN review 2019, one of the best things about the service is its high standards of customer support available at your disposal, regardless of what issues you face. There is a live chat feature available, which proves to be highly responsive, providing detailed answers to any and every question a user might have.
From Netflix unblocking to dedicated P2P servers, the support executives can guide you through any trouble or problem. Another great feature that we came across was the detailed guides, segregated according to each OS, making it inherently easier for the user to navigate specific topics of interest.
User credentials are your unique identity while subscribing to any service and acquiring them at CyberGhost is not such a difficult task. While you do not need an account for the 7-day free trial, later you do need a username and password to access the VPN’s dedicated apps or claim for a refund later.
To get user credentials, enter a valid email address and select a pricing plan that suits your privacy needs and budgetary requirements. Fill out the payment information and complete the checkout process. After this, you will have to set up your password.
We advise users to set strong passwords that comprise of both upper and lower case letters, at least one number and one symbol. A strong password means that it’s difficult for hackers and snoopers to guess it out on pure luck.
After you are done with setting your password, your email and password become your valid user credentials and you need to remember them or use a credible app to do that for you. To login, simply enter the credentials in the login page of the app or website.
CyberGhost Crack Review
While you may find many results on search engines, if you are trying to find the Crack setup for CyberGhost – we would advise you against going for them. According to our CyberGhost VPN review, there is no credible crack available online for the service and all those that claim to be so are malicious, malware infected links that can harm your PC and private data.
CyberGhost Review Reddit
Professional reviews are not quite different most of the time, as to what users think and feel about a certain service, because both of them are unadulterated and brutally honest opinions. Reddit hosts a wide variety of threads on all topics, especially user-sourced VPN reviews, making it a great place to look at for understanding how users perceive a certain service. Learn more about CyberGhost as it is ranked as the best reddit vpn in 2019.
According to our CyberGhost VPN review, we come across mixed comments on the provider’s overall service. One user who had been with the provider for a very long time claims not all of its servers are good enough to provide a commendable user experience.
In the post, the user also pointed that if you wanted to use the VPN in its most optimized manner, make sure that you select servers near to your location.
A grave concern about CyberGhost VPN, also pointed out by users is its pathetic Android app that proves to be intrusive and is in dire need of an overhaul. It has been problematic for quite some time and users seemed turned off from everything the app was about, from performance to malware presence, recommending that you stay away from it for good.
CyberGhost Alternative Review
While CyberGhost VPN is good, it is not the best provider out there. The service remains pretty basic with not a lot of novel features. Other more contemporary providers like PureVPN, ExpressVPN, IPVanish, offer more diversity in their list of advanced features.
So if you are looking for something better than CyberGhost, opt for providers like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, PrivateVPN. PureVPN and IPVanish.
