Even for the laymen, CyberGhost is a name that is synonymous with quality and assurance. When I began writing this review, I expected nothing less than the absolute best performance in every category. To my amazement, CyberGhost was able to leave me more impressed than I had been originally.
Its 7000+ servers is a feat that no other VPN on the market can match. The same is the case with its support in China through its 40+ servers as well as the strongest AES-256-bit encryption that a VPN can have.
The only problematic issue I came across was mediocre customer support that needs a complete overhaul in order to be on the same wavelength as the rest of the client.
I can say this with the utmost confidence that few other VPNs can claim to be a match or better than CyberGhost. One such provider undoubtedly is PureVPN that can proffer almost the same features as well as far more friendly and engaging customer support.

Jurisdiction: Where Is CyberGhost Located?
CyberGhost is based out of Romania. As the country is not part of the 5/9/14 Eyes alliance, users can be sure that their online activities are not being monitored.
Apart from that, there are no major data retention laws inside Romania that should cause any serious worries for most users. As far as the base of operations goes, I have no qualms in saying that there are few other better locations.
Security: Is CyberGhost A Safe Option?
Yes, the service is by far one of the safest VPN options users can opt for. While I already had a favorable opinion of CyberGhost, the service was able to comprehensibly surpass my already high expectations. The service has a highly transparent logging policy while securing all its users via the strongest encryption protocols available on the internet.
Transparent Logging Policy
This is perhaps the most important element in any VPN service; whether they keep logs on their users or not. Thankfully, users don’t need to be worried on that front with CyberGhost as the service has a strict “no-logs” policy that will ensure that users can stay connected to the Internet without worrying about being tracked.
I should also mention here that most VPN providers are not transparent enough about their logging policies, much less about the intricate details. However, CyberGhost has a complete and thorough transparency report that users can access anytime they want.
CyberGhost Encryption & Protocols
I found CyberGhost to be using all the necessary and up-to-date encryptions that a reputable service is expected to have. It has a 256-bit encryption that is supported further by all the major protocols.
These protocols include PPTP, SSTP, L2TP, IKEv2, and OpenVPN. A combination of these ensures that users are never left exposed and vulnerable anytime while online.
CyberGhost VPN VirusTotal Test
Before a service claims to secure users’ connections, it is important that it itself be secure and safe to use and install. Hence, I conducted a virus test on the service itself using Virus Total.
Here is the result:
As users can see, the service is free from any hidden viruses or any form of files that may harm a user’s device.
Leaks: Are Your IP, DNS & WebRTC Safe?
To be certain that service is properly obfuscating the users and not exposing their IP, DNS, or WebRTC addresses, I conducted a leak test. Here’s the result of the test:
As users can see, there were no major leaks that should concern anyone.
Servers: How Many Servers Does CyberGhost Have?
The service offers a whopping 7000+ servers spread across 90 countries in 113 countries. If you find yourself thinking that this is some kind of a mistake then don’t worry it’s not. The service is the definitive market leader when it comes to pure server count.
Does CyberGhost Support P2P/File Sharing?
CyberGhost has long been considered one of the best options to opt for as far as users’ torrenting needs are concerned. This is due to the unsurpassed number of servers that enable users to continue with as much P2P sharing as they want.
On the app itself, users can find a dedicated section for torrenting as it’ll list down the servers that would be optimal for torrenting.
Does CyberGhost Work in China?
It is one of the select few VPNs that have a domestic Chinese server enabling it to allow users to get past the restrictive Chinese cyber laws.
China’s notorious Great Firewall makes it next to impossible for users to access most of the mainstream websites unless they have a good VPN service that can unblock the web for them. For them, as well as for Chinese expats that want to continue accessing their local geo-restricted Chinese websites CyberGhost, with its 40+ servers, works like a charm.
Streaming: Can CyberGhost Unblock Netflix?
CyberGhost can unblock Netflix with extreme ease. The service goes a step further than most other VPN providers thanks to its exclusive Netflix mode that makes watching all your favorite shows and movies straight via the app itself.
Speed: How Fast are CyberGhost Servers?
CyberGhost offers an impressive ranger of servers that should far exceed the average user’s expectations. However, to be completely objective, I conducted a speed test on a 100 Mbps connection connecting to 5 random servers in Mexico, Chile, UK, Russia, and Japan.
Here are the results:
Compatibility: What Devices Can I Use CyberGhost On?
Users will be able to use CyberGhost seamlessly on all their Windows, Mac, Android, Linux, and iOS devices. The service offers dedicated support for each of their platforms in addition to browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox as well as for Fire TV.
Pricing: Is CyberGhost An Affordable Option?
I found the prices on offer at CyberGhost to be well-within the “affordable” category. All the payment plans are highly flexible and provide excellent value-for-service. Users can choose between the monthly, 1-Year, 2-Year, and 3-Year plans.
- Monthly Plan ($12.99 per month)
- 1-Year Plan ($5.99 per month)
- 2-Year Plan ($3.69 per month)
- 3-Year Plan ($2.75 per month)
CyberGhost Payment Methods
The service offers users the chance to pay via the most popular and traditional payment methods such as through their VISA/Mastercard Credit card as well as through PayPal.
In order to add an additional layer of digital anonymity, users can also pay via Bitcoin. I would’ve liked to see them support more cryptocurrencies as well as debit cards as it would’ve allowed users more options in terms of making payments.
CyberGhost Refund Policy
CyberGhost offers a 45-Day Money-back guarantee. Over the years, I have found 30 days to be the optimum time for a user to decide whether the service is up to their standards or not. Provided how the service has a 45-Day guarantee indicates the overly user-friendly nature of the service and how it places its users’ convenience above all else.
There is a minor catch that this policy only applies to the 2-Year and 1-Year packages while the 1-Month package comes with a 14-Day money-back guarantee which in my opinion is still an acceptable duration.
Trustworthiness: What Do Other Users Say About CyberGhost?
Aside from what I feel about the service, I wanted to see what other users felt about the service and whether their experiences match the reputation CyberGhost has online. Hence, I headed over to Trustpilot and Reddit to gauge the overall perception of the service from actual users. Additionally, I looked at the service’s own customer support section.
Here’s what I found out:
CyberGhost Trustpilot Review
As I expected, CyberGhost is one of the highest-rated VPN services on Trustpilot, thanks to a 5/5 rating that is backed up by over 9000 reviews.
What sets it distinctly apart from others is the fact that the service has nearly 97% users that have rated it as either Excellent or Great. There were less than 1% Bad reviews highlighting the fact that CyberGhost is the most dependable VPN providers available on the Internet.
CyberGhost Reddit Review
Reddit is another avenue that was full of glowing reviews in apropos to the service. Users commented on nearly all the important aspects of the service, adding to the perception that CyberGhost is one of the best VPN providers on the market.
Multiple reviews highlighted the service’s impeccable ability to unblock all major streaming sites, provide dedicated torrenting needs, and most importantly, the ability to use it across 7 devices.
I did find a few negative complaints, all of which were related to the service’s customer support. For a service that performs so extraordinarily in terms of services and features, lax customer service is an area that needs immediate attention and remedy.
CyberGhost Customer Support
Upon looking at the service’s customer support, I could immediately empathize with the complaints that so many users had i.e. the fact that it requires too much info to actually in contact with a service rep.
Users that are uber concerned about privacy and anonymity may not feel too comfortable with such a mechanism. Apart from that CyberGhost has a 24/7 live chat that is helmed by knowledgeable reps.
Users also have access to any number of answers to different queries they may have had at different times thanks to the FAQ section located in Help. Other resources under the same section include guides, troubleshooter and all the recent announcements.
Honestly, CyberGhost is rightfully there in the top tier of the best and most reliable VPN providers currently available on the market. Users will be hard-pressed to find many better VPN services.
It doesn’t matter what your primary needs from a VPN might be, CyberGhost has you covered on all major bases in terms of safe browsing, torrenting, and streaming. All of this is available at decently priced plans.
However, its customer service is not quite up to the standard. I found it to be generic and incapable of providing the same flawless service as the rest of the client. This is where an alternative like PureVPN performs a lot better.
You can also look at other alternatives to CyberGhost below and their comparisons of pricing, features, unblocking capabilities, torrenting/streaming performance, setup and interface, servers, security offered, customer service and more:
Do I Recommend CyberGhost VPN?
Yes, not just recommend but highly recommend the service. I found CyberGhost more than capable of fulfilling all the major expectations that all users are likely to have from their VPN provider.
Its server count is unmatched by any competitor, its Chinese servers are the envy of the rest of the market, its torrenting and streaming support is the stuff of legend, and most importantly, all of these features are available at bargain prices. I’m still amazed at how there are VPN providers that struggle to provide half the same features at double the prices.
