Contentious logging policy, operating out of the US, and below-average speeds? Is there any reason to opt for this service at all? Read this 2020 RA4W VPN review to find out!

Compatibility Windows

Based out of the United States, RA4W offers users strong encryption but is ambiguous about its logs policy. Similarly, it offers support for torrents and warns that you may be held accountable for downloading pirated content.

The service doesn’t work in China and should leave most users wondering exactly what they would use RA4W for if they did end up getting the subscription. There is a poor level of encryption, no support for kill switch, and DNS leaks are quite evident.

There are far better VPN services out there like ExpressVPN that is clear and unambiguous about all the features they provide their users without any ifs or buts.

Jurisdiction: Where Does RA4W Operate From?

RA4W operates out of the United States. This would be problematic for users concerned about their privacy for a number of reasons. The foremost cause for concern is the US’ frontline role as a member of the 5/9/14 Eyes alliances.

Additionally, the NSA has been known to keep a close eye on the digital activities of its own citizens as well as sharing said intel with other members of the intelligence-sharing agreement.

A VPN service operating from the US would not be able to properly protects its users’ digital anonymity as several pieces of legislation make it impossible not to keep a log on all their users.

Security: Can RA4W VPN Keep You Safe Online?

No, there are far too many problems with this service that disqualify it from being a completely reliable and dependent service. While the encryptions and protocols used seem to be secure enough, the service is based out of the United States.

This means that all law enforcement has the legal authority to have an oversight of all information that the service has on its users. Finally, the virus test also detected some troubling issues that further diminish its claim to being a safe VPN provider.

RA4W VPN Logging Policy

The service claims not to store any logs but multiple users have expressed their reservations about these claims. The company itself claims that they store users’ emails, billing info, invoices, and cookies.

However, while information on these does leave users more exposed then they should, there is no reason to believe this is the only info that the service stores, which means you should steer clear from it!

Encryption & Protocols

As far as encryptions go, RA4W has the strongest 256-bit military-grade encryption, along with SHA1 authentication and a 2048-bit RSA key to ensuring users are properly protected online.

The service also boasts the unique Blowfish-128-CBC cipher encryption that few other providers can match. These are all supported via the OpenVPN protocol, which is the strongest option from the security perspective.

RA4W VPN Virus Test

I wanted to be certain that the service is free from any forms of hidden viruses or malware that hurt users trying to run the service. RA4W failed the test meaning their apps are not safe to download/install!

As you might see, Virus Total detected an engine that it identified as possible malware. This would disqualify the service as a completely safe option for users to use.

Leaks: Does RA4W VPN Leak Your IP/DNS/WebRTC?

As with most VPN providers, we wanted to see how secure are their protocols in terms of ensuring there are no IP, DNS or WebRTC leaks taking place. Using ipleak.net, we conducted different tests which as you can see below RA4W VPN failed once again:

Servers: How Many Servers Does RA4W VPN Have?

The service currently has around 30 servers spread across 23 countries. The numbers are undoubtedly extremely low and become even more meager when considering how a service like Surfshark can easily give users access to thousands of servers across hundreds of countries.

Does RA4W VPN Support Torrents?

The service does not specifically mention torrents at all. The servers do support P2P sharing but there are other concerns such as its servers inside the US as well as other countries with tough anti-piracy laws.

Does RA4W VPN Work in China?

This might just be the best part about RA4W as it has a Chinese server.Based in Hong Kong, this service allows users unrestricted access to the internet even under China’s harsh censorship online.

Similarly, users outside the country can use this server to seamlessly access local geo-restricted Chinese content that few other services can provide.

Streaming: Does RA4W Unblock Netflix and Other VoDs?

Surprisingly, RA4W does not mention unblocking Netflix or any other streaming site at all on its page. Hence, I had my expectations really low, and with a reason as the service was indeed incapable of unblocking Netflix.

I tried unblocking other VoD platforms like Prime Video, Hulu, Hotstar, BBC iPlayer, Disney+ but was unsuccessful on each occasion.

Speed: How Fast are RA4W VPN Servers?

Despite some undesirable server locations, I wanted to be fair and unbiased when judging the speed of these servers. On a 100 Mbps connection, I connect to 5 random servers inside Australia, India, France, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

Server Download Upload Ping
Australia 32.8Mbps 35.7Mbps 236ms
India 33.2Mbps 36.5Mbps 299ms
France 28.2Mbps 22.8Mbps 322ms
South Korea 40.7Mbps 38.4Mbps 379ms
United Kingdom 25.4Mbps 23.9Mbps 339ms
Average 32.06Mbps 31.46Mbps 315ms

Compatibility: Can I Use RA4W VPN On All My Devices?

RA4W is good to use on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android but with a catch. Only the Windows version comes with a dedicated app. As for iOS, Android, and Mac users, they’ll have to configure it manually.

Users will need to set it up through manual configuration. Seeing how this can turn into a messy hassle, the service does not seem quite the user-friendly option as some of its competitors.

Pricing: How Much Does RA4W VPN Cost Exactly?

RA4W comes with a fairly affordable pricing plan. Though it does not offer any special deals or offers that particularly stand-out as it has the standard three packages:

  • Monthly ($4.99 per month)
  • Yearly ($2.91 per month/$34.99 one-time)
  • 2-Years ($2.08 per month/$49.99 one-time)

RA4W VPN Refund Policy

If the users feel unimpressed or unconvinced of the service’s capabilities, they can get a refund back within a 7-day time frame. Just make sure to read their terms of service beforehand to learn about the conditions of a refund.

RA4W VPN Payment Methods

Disappointingly, RA4W only allows users to be through either their credit cards or PayPal. While the lack of support for debit cards means that a lot of users may find themselves unable to pay for the service, it has become a benchmark for most VPNs to support cryptocurrencies.

Not only do these add a layer of security to digital transactions, it gives users a sense of assurance about their anonymity while making payments online.

Trustworthiness: What Do Users Say About RA4W VPN?

The most reliable way to see whether the service performs as it claims to is by seeing what its existing users feel. Hence, I looked on Reddit as well as at its own customer support to see how user-friendly is the service exactly.

RA4W VPN Reddit Review

Users on Reddit are famously cavalier when it comes to dishing out judgments on VPN services. Looking at some of the comments, it becomes clear that RA4W has left most users severely underwhelmed.

While the service did not make any extraordinary claims about speed, users were still visibly frustrated at the snail-paced servers. Interestingly, a user also pointed out the ambiguous and highly dubious origins of the service itself.

RA4W VPN Customer Support

The service does not leave an overly positive impression on its users visiting the site. There is a visible lack of a 24/7 live chat support that has become a regular feature offered by some of the more reputable names on the market.

Instead, users are required to fill out tickets and provide some information in order to receive an answer to their queries. There is no blog or news section that most VPNs have in order to keep its users aware of some of the latest developments in cybersecurity.

RA4W VPN Alternatives

As compare to the other VPNs, Users may not find RA4W an attractive enough option because of its lack of any distinctive features. On the other hand, a service like Surfshark has become a household name in the industry because of its strict pro-privacy policies.

Located inside countries with no data retention laws, transparent logging policies available at incredibly affordable rates would make these the most suitable alternatives for users to consider.

Do I Recommend RA4W?

No, I would not recommend this service for any category at all. Usually, when I do these reviews, I acknowledge how the provider is good enough for one particular task like torrenting or unblocking Netflix.

I cannot do the same for this service as it fails to impress in any category whatsoever. It cannot unblock Netflix and its lethargic customer support leaves users increasingly frustrated. Users would be highly advised to go for any other VPN like Surfshark!

Paid my money and never got an email. downloaded the dashboard, saw a password tried to use it no good. thanks for your payment here is your logon, did not work

    • Bestvpn.co says:

Thanks for commenting here Terry. I feel bad that you had to fall victim to the service. There’s a reason why we gave the provider only ONE star. It is not trustworthy at all. Worst part is, you cannot even ask for a Refund. Since they don’t have a policy for it. Make sure to always research providers, before signing up with them. Reading reviews always gives a good idea about different services. I’d recommend you waste no time, and opt to use ExpressVPN or NordVPN. They might be a little expensive, but are worth the money (at least for now).

Hmm have a look at the terms and conditions and you will see:

Without logging how would they know you were participating in any of these activities?

but in their privacy policy they claim “We do not monitor or log any content of the VPN (Virtual Private Network) tunnels themselves!” hmmm

    • Bestvpn.co says:

Thanks for pointing that out Martin. Like we mentioned above, the services STATES it does not log, but it seems like the truth is different with many Reddit users even presenting proof (link above). It’s like every provider is JUST HUNGRY FOR INFORMATION!

  3. John says:

Considering the price i’m happy, it’s not fair comparing them to VPN’s such as PIA or similar since they obviously are not in the same price range at all. It meets my needs and does it very well.

    • admin says:

Yes, the pricing of RA4W VPN is definitely a whole lot cheaper. Plus, you even have the capability of purchasing a lifetime subscription. Glad you are happy 🙂

  4. Tam Lee says:

Avoid them at all costs!! Nothing works – and when I tried to get a refund via paypal they said they were experiencing technical difficulty blah blah… honestly they are useless!

    • admin says:

Hi Tam Lee, thanks for sharing your experience. However, the company is actually not being dishonest. The VPN provider makes no claims of offering a money back guarantee. Could you share a screenshot of their reply to you?

  5. Brandon Atkinson says:

I use the ra4w program but want to switch to openvpn, I have the software installed but cannot find the config file for open VPN to add the dns leak fix dll and I am not sure if it should go in the server info .ovpn file or not. I use the london server …

this is an ok VPN and the price was right.

    • Bestvpn.co says:

Hi Brandon, you will find the configuration files on the main RA4W website. Log in to your account to gain access to the dashboard. However, you must just find better reliability and security with other services like PureVPN and ExpressVPN, which do not suffer with any DNS or IPv6 leaks.
