  • VPN apps could be loaded with malware and spyware like the infamous HolaVPN, which was later exposed to be using a Botnet to steal user bandwidth. Test the VPN app you want to use by running it through an antivirus and antimalware tool.
  • Some cheap VPNs may lack vital features that are necessary for cloaking your identity and anonymizing your data. I have created a list below for the best features to look for in a cheap VPN. These will guarantee you receive strong privacy online.

When is the time to upgrade your VPN?

If you are happy with your current VPN service and it is meeting all of your needs, then there is no need to upgrade. However, if you are finding that your VPN is not as fast as it used to be, or it is not unblocking the websites or services that you want, then it might be time for an upgrade.

Additionally, if you are using a free VPN service, then it is definitely time for an upgrade. Free VPNs have many limitations, such as data caps, slower speeds, and fewer server locations. If you are looking for a more reliable and feature-rich VPN experience, then you will need to sign up for a paid subscription.

Here are some more factors which indicate that you should upgrade your VPN:

  • No or less number of simultaneous connections.
  • Bandwidth limits.
  • Data caps.
  • VPN server not unblocking streaming platforms.
  • IP or DNS leaking.

Cheap VPNs vs. Free VPNs

While picking a VPN, users have two options: going for a paid service or a free trial. The latter, though may sound like a good choice, will obviously lack in many areas a premium service would not.

Bear in mind that FREE VPNs still need to manage costs of the server infrastructure, hiring technical support staff, managing the website, and the development of the dedicated apps.

If the service does not charge you at all, it is a clear sign they might use other tactics like showing spammy advertising, monitoring internet usage, or selling the data to advertisers.

Downsides of “Free”

  • Speed Caps – Majority free VPN providers will set bandwidth caps. This limits users to receive speed ranging from 1-3mbps. Cheap paid services offer unlimited bandwidth speed.
  • Does Not Support P2P – Many VPN services that block torrenting on free plans will allow them on paid plans. Bear in mind downloading torrents means increased bandwidth, which is not FREE.
  • Limited Servers – Most free VPNs will have a limited selection of servers available ranging anywhere from one to ten, and these servers will usually be very crowded.
  • Bandwidth Restrictions – Most free providers will set a limit on the data you can use, which ranges to a few GB of data/month. Cheap paid services impose no such restrictions.
  • Logging of Data – There is no good way to determine whether free VPNs log your data. When you purchase a subscription, you have a contract with the VPN. This means they are bound to fulfill their promise.

Best Cheapest VPN for Torrenting

VPNs keep your identity anonymous from the five eyes alliances like the US, Canada, and the UK, local ISPs, and copyright infringement hunters, allowing you to download files securely.

Added features like SOCKS5 proxy, Anti-DPI Protection, and Split Tunneling further boost security. Are you looking for the best cheap VPN for Torrenting? If so, then you should try Surfshark!

Are there any dangers of using cheap VPNs?

You have to understand that there can be bad VPNs with expensive price tags and good VPNs with affordable price tags.

The second thing to keep in mind that free VPNs that have no paid versions are usually bad news. They sell user data to third parties for commissions and then the user is targeted with intrusive and annoying ads.

The third thing to keep in check is that not all cheap VPNs offer quality services. The key is to do your research first by reading guide reviews, checking if the service is backed up with an independent audit, or simply checking user reviews on Trustpilot.

The biggest danger of using a cheap VPN is that it could be a scam. There are many dodgy providers out there who will take your money and then provide you with a subpar service, or no service at all. Additionally, some of these providers may keep logs of your online activities, which defeats the purpose of using a VPN in the first place.

Another danger of using a cheap VPN is that it could be slow. This is because the provider may not have enough resources to invest in robust servers and fast connectivity. This can make streaming videos or downloading files a frustrating experience.

Finally, some cheap VPNs do not offer strong encryption, which means that your data could be vulnerable to snooping by government agencies or hackers.

What are the reasons for VPNs being expensive?

The main reason why VPNs are so expensive is because they require a lot of resources to run. A good VPN service will have a large network of servers in various locations around the world, 24/7 customer support, robust encryption, and fast speeds. All of these factors come at a cost.

Additionally, many premium VPN providers offer additional features that justify the higher price tag. These features might include a kill switch, split tunneling, ad blocking, and more.

So, if you are looking for a cheap VPN service, make sure to do your research and only sign up with a reputable provider. Otherwise, you might end up with a subpar service or even no service at all.

Yes, there are reasonably-priced VPNs that do offer port forwarding either as a standard or an extra add-on. For instance, if you opt for PureVPN and Ivacy, you can get port forwarding by paying a little extra.

📍 Do cheap VPNs offer dedicated IP addresses?

Some cheap VPNs like Surfshark offer static IPs that you can use with any subscription. However, if you want a dedicated IP address only assigned to you, then you will have to pay an additional amount.

❓ Do cheap VPNs limit bandwidth?

It might be possible that some cheap VPNs may engage in shady practices like bandwidth limiting. However, all the cheap VPNs recommend in this guide provide unlimited data and bandwidth to their users.

💭 Can I get a cheap VPN for one week?

It is difficult to find a commercial VPN that offers a 1-week plan to its customers. The shortest period available is a single month subscription. Luckily, all the VPNs listed in this guide offer a refund guarantee that lasts up to 30-days. Therefore, if you require only a week, you can pay, and then get your money back!

❓What is the cheapest best VPN Reddit?

Surfshark is the best cheap VPN with a strict no-logs policy for Reddit users.

Wrapping Things Up

I hope this guide helps users in finding all the necessary information they need regarding the best cheap VPN. For a quick summary, PureVPN offers a premium service at the most affordable price of $1.99 on a 2-year plan.

However, if you’re good on funds then we recommend going for ExpressVPN as the provider offers more value and quality in all the domains that make a VPN secure and fast. The 1-year plan has a price tag of $99.95 ($6.67/mo.)

I think Airline Companies often track that customer/user visiting to their site might be using VPN provider, whether a cheap or free.

    • Bestvpn.co says:

      Hey Cesar,
Yes, not just aviation firms but hundreds of other firms involved in other businesses try to track as to whether a user has deployed a VPN or not and if they find it out, they disable access for the user to their service.
You can only bypass this problem if you go for a Top VPN service, which makes detection of your connection almost next to impossible

      Thanks!

Privacy and security isn’t something I’d want to save money on. Anyway, I think it’s not that expensive to pay just a little over 2$ a month for a 3year subscription of NordVPN. I really enjoy their app. Its easy to use and being not the most tech savvy person it’s one of the main things I was looking at when choosing a VPN. For that same reason I’d prefer to select a server by city, but it’s not something that affects the performance anyway.

Hey Homunculus, great to see you commenting on our review here. Yes, you are absolutely right and we would like to second your opinion by saying that there is absolutely no compromise on security even if you have to pay extra for it. NordVPN definitely has a great deal making its 3 year plan, among the cheapest available, and its app works incredibly well too! We would like to ask you as to what speeds you are getting and which servers do you connect to when using NordVPN. User opinion is of great value to us and we might include it in our guide! Would be waiting for it definitely!

I was previously with IPVanish but it was unable to unblock Netflix and even if I forgave it for that it still was too freakin slow to give a good browsing session.. I mean pathetically low… I have now switched to Torguard.. its not exactly a cheap VPN but the prices are pretty much within my range and it unblocks Netflix quite easily.. the speeds are great too.. zero throttling..

    • Bestvpn.co says:

Hey Martha, great to see your comment on our guide. IPVanish is a pretty good service and behaviour of that kind by this VPN is rare. Do try it again or contact its customer support for the best technical assistance in such matters. But Torguard is an equally stellar service and if you are with it at the moment, do try out its dedicated IPs for providing better security while streaming and performing other online activities.
